TURTLES

At 3 Rivers we are privileged to be only a short walk from one of the most popular turtle nesting beaches in the world, at Rosalie. For much of the year four types of turtle regularly stop off to lay eggs; the Giant Leatherback, the Loggerhead, the Hawksbill and the Green Turtle. Later on in the year their newly hatched offspring can be seen scurrying down the beach towards their new, watery home. There are a few local guys who monitor the beaches at night to watch and tag the turtles, they phone us if one arrives, and guests are given the opportunity of rushing down to the beach to see them in action!

Widecast, an organisation concerned with the conservation of Caribbean turtles, is currently running a project at Rosalie beach to monitor, catalogue and safeguard the future of these ancient, magnificent creatures. We are actively involved in this project and our guests are informed when there is a good probability of a sighting. Rowan Byrne is running the initiative here in Dominica, and if you would like to know more you can visit his website about the project right here on Rosalie beach

Whether or not you actually get to see the turtles, a night on a moonlit beach is a pretty cool way to pass some time.
