THE SUSTAINABLE LIVING CENTRE
is a registered NGO

As well as being a hotel, we facilitate a program of Sustainable Living Training Modules at our education centre. We offer trainees a Sustainable Living Experience, as opposed to a display or demonstration, and workshops include various Solar Energy Units , organic farming, veggie oil as fuel, Hydro-Electricity , how to make Biogas, and general sustainable living . Trainees are involved in both theoretical instruction and practical construction of alternative energy units, both at the centre and in their home villages.
We have established a vibrant community based organisation known as the Sustainable Living Committee (SLIC), in collaboration with a registered NGO called Lifeline Ministries, and local village councils and groups, and have held public meetings and undertaken outreach activity to recruit members from whom the trainees are being selected. We are in the process of registeringregister as an NGO. Those trainees will then become the teachers for the communities in which they live.

We have successfully secured some funding to help subsidize the installation of equipment in the viullages, and are currently seeking further funding to build a new centre for the project here at 3 rivers.
The sustainable living committee will rent the education centre from 3 rivers for a peppercorn rent and manage the funds made by the centre. Many Dominicans have shown considerable interest in practical training especially where they can see the immediate benefits in terms of reduced costs. Dominica is known as the "Nature Island" but many of its citizens are unaware of the damage modern banana farming methods have already wreaked on the island but are keen to learn environmentally friendly practices.
We attract overseas students to generate income which is used to subsidize equipment installations in the communities.

We have begun running monthly workshops to teach people how to make and use the equipment and our membership is growing fast.
