Although 3 Rivers is currently powered solely by the sun, we have plans to install a hydo-electricity system in the near future.

As the number of cottages expands, so will our demand for electricity. We have been measuring the flow rate and fall of one of our rivers over the past couple of years, and we calculate that we have enough power in the river to run a 6kw crossflow turbine with ease.

The new system will be connected to our current solar system, and both will charge our bank of batteries; come rain or shine, we should have plenty of power. Although this new system will be taking some water from the river, a few moments later, once it has turned the wheel of the turbine, the water will be returned to the river, as clean as the moment it left. We are sure that the effect on the river and its inhabitants will be minimal.
